So, You've Been Diagnosed. What Now?

In June of 2022, I was diagnosed with what ended up being Stage 4 aggressive, inoperable, and chemo-resistant colon cancer. I had a 14% chance of survival, but within 9 months, was NED (No Evidence of Disease) and truly living my best life. I am writing this to give you my insider's guide on the advantages I found on my cancer journey and how I leveraged the best of conventional and traditional healing approaches to heal from the inside out.

Let Data Drive Decisions, Not Fear

Both leading and lagging indicator data tell your story.  By using data to drive your treatment decisions, you can control your journey, improve your outcomes and reduce the risk of recurrence. The typical cancer journey uses two types of data.  It's just the tip of the iceberg. We think you should use 12 types of data to measure the health of your body, your environment and the cancer.

Why does the additional data matter?  It helped me to:
1. Understand why my body & environment was welcoming to cancer.
2. Predict if a treatment will work (genomics of the tumor).
3. Predict if a treatment will work (ctDNA, CA19-9 or CEA).
4. Identify what I could do to avoid suffering from side effects.

Don't you also want to know the answer to those questions?  Of course you do!  But it's not included the Standard of Care, so you have to be empowered to advocate for yourself.  Before you do ANYTHING - get baseline data.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

I studied how they healed across the globe and realized there are 6 toolboxes you can leverage in your healing journey.  Medical school only teaches one (Pharmaceuticals) so it is up to you to identify experts to support nutrition, vitamins and supplements, lifestyle, environment, and other healing approaches.  I built a team of 11 doctors and healers to both treat my cancer and heal the root causes of why my body was hospitable. You need to leverage the best of all healing modalities to heal without suffering.

Trust, But
Be Skeptical

Be data driven so that you can challenge standards of care and assumptions when necessary.

For example, did you know most of the time your cancer isn’t urgent and has been growing silently for many years without you knowing?  Did you know the current standard of care doesn’t measure to ensure chemo will work before administering it?  You likely have time to prepare your body (it's about to go through hell!) and let YOUR data guide your actions - not what is profitable and easy for the doctor/hospital to administer.

Find Your Flow

Do something every day that makes your soul happy.  This could be singing, dancing, basket weaving, running, drawing, planning parties…. Whatever makes you happy to do - do more of it.

Gather Your Tribe

Healing from cancer is a team sport. I couldn’t have been healed in 9 months if it wasn’t for hundreds of friends and family supporting me on my journey.  You need all of your energy to heal - so if someone will help cooking, cleaning, driving kids to practice, wrapping holiday presents, walking your pet, let them!  You only have so many hours in the day - and right now healing is your number one job!  It gets expensive to heal from cancer and not just treat your cancer cells- so we have built a registry so your community can help you with what really matters to your health!

Heal Smarter, Not Harder

Build a strategy to heal the root causes, strengthen your immune system AND treat cancer.

Your oncologist is only focused on treating cancer - so you need to do the rest!

We have built an amazing tool on our website to help you avoid side effects and have built our MOJO Functional Blood panel to help you identify the root causes and strengthen your immune system.  We would highly recommend working with a Mederi trained herbalist to help you dial in your lifestyle, diet, supplements, and environment to make your body less hospitable to cancer.

Celebrate the Small Wins

Complicated health issues like cancer are often a nonlinear journey - Celebrate the big AND small wins along the path!  For me, it was incredibly helpful to have baseline data and track leading indicators so I always knew the score on my cancer instead of having major anxiety.

Maximize Joy

Surround yourself in love and joy (it is truly all that matters!).  It is hard to ground yourself in gratitude, joy and love, but if your time on this earth is limited, how else would you want to live? I decided I was going to make the absolute most out of every moment I have left, no matter how long that is, and I hope you will too.

Cancer is not a death sentence… but it is a life sentence.  Welcome to the rest of your life….  You are worthy of this investment and I wish you the very best on your healing journey!
